The overarching goal of research in the Hulleman Lab is to identify and pursue challenging, poorly characterized biological problems with broadly-translatable implications for the treatment of ocular protein misfolding diseases. To accomplish our goal, we leverage our experience in chemical biology, biochemistry, and drug discovery to restore protein homeostasis. Specifically, we aim to develop an understanding of the fundamental cellular and molecular mechanisms which underlie age-related and inherited retinal diseases with an emphasis on age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and rare retinal dystrophies.
